Risk of endometrial cancer among women with benign ovarian tumors — A Danish nationwide cohort study
Gynecologic Oncology Mar 10, 2020
Reinholdt K, Kjaer SK, Guleria S, et al. - Researchers analyzed women with a benign ovarian tumor, by utilizing data from a large Danish register-based cohort study, to determine the overall as well as the type-specific risk of endometrial cancer in those women. The participants were observed for the subsequent development of endometrial cancer. Findings revealed a reduction in the risk of endometrial cancer beyond the first year following a benign ovarian tumor and this reduction continued for 20 or more years. Reduced incidences of endometrial cancer were reported in relation to both solid benign ovarian tumors and cystic benign ovarian tumors. The likely underlying mechanisms remain unknown.
