Risk of developing pressure sore in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients – A nationwide cohort study
Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Jun 13, 2018
Chen JH, et al. - Authors gauged if a higher risk of pressure sore (PrS) was seen in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). They extracted 514 patients with ALS and 2,056 controls from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2008 using a Taiwan National Insurance claims dataset with 23 million participants. Findings suggested an association of ALS with an enhanced PrS risk. More attention to the management of patients with ALS, particularly in women and those with relatively younger age, was needed for the prevention of PrS. A much greater PrS risk was seen in people aged 20–54, vs in those aged ≥55.
