Risk of dementia and mild cognitive impairment among older adults in same-sex relationships
International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry Apr 27, 2019
Perales-Puchalt J, et al. - Researchers examined older adults in same-sex relationships (SSR) and opposite-sex relationships (OSR) for the risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. From the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center, they analyzed longitudinal data of cognitively normal individuals aged ≥ 55 years at baseline who had a spouse, partner, or companion as study partner at any assessment. Outcomes revealed no statistical differences in hazard ratios of MCI and dementia between SSR and OSR individuals in the total sample nor stratified by sex.
