Saarelainen L, et al. - In a nationwide cohort of persons with Alzheimer's disease (AD), the researchers examined the risk of death correlated with new benzodiazepine and related drug (BZDR) use. In persons with AD, benzodiazepine and related drug use were correlated with an increased risk of death. The outcomes supported treatment guidelines stating that nonpharmacological approaches ought to be the first-line option for symptomatic treatment of AD.
