Risk of conduct and oppositional defiant disorder symptoms in offspring of parents with mental health problems: Findings from the Raine study

Ayano G, Lin A, Betts K, et al. - Assessing data from the Raine Study, a birth cohort study based in Western Australia, researchers sought to examine if and how maternal anxiety and depressive symptoms and paternal emotional problems correlate with conduct disorder (CD) and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) symptoms in adolescent offspring aged 17. Findings suggest that the risk of CD and ODD symptoms are higher at age 17 among adolescents whose mothers reported anxiety, depressive, and comorbid anxiety and depressive symptoms. The findings appear to be valuable for preventive strategies. No correlations were seen with paternal emotional problems
