Risk of chronic spontaneous urticaria in reproductive-aged women with abnormal uterine bleeding: A population-based cohort study
The Journal of Dermatology Sep 03, 2021
Chen TL, Yip HT, Wang JH, et al. - A higher risk of developing chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) (adjusted hazard ratios [aHR] = 1.83) exists in reproductive-aged women with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB). Findings highlight the importance of investigating CSU patients regarding menstrual issues in clinical practice, and it may be useful to further consult with obstetrician-gynecologists.
This nationwide cohort study included 79,595 patients and 79,107 propensity-score matched controls.
Participants were selected from Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database.
An elevated risk of CSU was found in relation to AUB with an abnormal bleeding frequency (aHR = 1.70), irregular bleeding (aHR = 1.80), and intermenstrual bleeding (aHR = 1.65), vs those without abnormalities.
