Risk of acute myocardial infarction among hepatitis C virus (HCV)-positive and HCV-negative men at various lipid levels: Results from ERCHIVES
Clinical Infectious Diseases Aug 09, 2017
Butt AA, et al. – In this current study, researchers assessed incident acute myocardial infarction (AMI) rates among hepatitis C virus (HCV)–positive and HCV–negative men among various lipid strata. Findings demonstrated that a higher risk of AMI was seen among HCV–positive men versus HCV–negative men at higher total cholesterol (TC)/low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) levels; this risk was more pronounced at a younger age. Data revealed that lipid lowering therapy markedly attenuated this risk, with more profound reduction among HCV–positive versus HCV–negative men at similar lipid levels.
