Risk factors predicting posttraumatic hydrocephalus after decompressive craniectomy in traumatic brain injury

World Neurosurgery May 13, 2018

Di G, et al. - The risk factors for predicting posttraumatic hydrocephalus (PTH) development after traumatic brain injury (TBI) were investigated among patients who underwent decompressive craniectomy (DC). As per results, an application of a predictive model combining the three characteristics (such as Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scores less than 6 on admission, presence of IVH on first head CT and need for bilateral DC) might be used to predict whether TBI after DC will develop PTH. Furthermore, the reliability of this specific combination could have utility for clinicians to perform a correct prediction.
