Risk factors of traditional serrated adenoma and clinicopathological characteristics of synchronous conventional adenoma

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy May 08, 2019

Kim J, et al. - By reviewing medical records of 31,932 healthy subjects who had colonoscopy screening in a single hospital between 2012 and 2017, researchers examined traditional serrated adenoma (TSA) prevalence and risk factors and compared the features of synchronous conventional adenoma (AD) in TSA patients to those of AD only in AD patients. In 116 patients, TSA was observed. Data reported that TSA prevalence in healthy adults was 0.4%. Findings suggested that age ≥50 years, hypertension, and current smoking can be TSA risk factors. Synchronous AD is frequently seen with TSA and may be more advanced than that in patients with AD-only.
