Lupus Jul 18, 2019
Li Z, et al. - Through a retrospective study carried out in Peking Union Medical College Hospital and data from medical records of 100 subjects who underwent total hip arthroplasty (THA) from January 2012 to June 2018, the researchers intended to recognize possible factors correlated with complications or transfusion of THA in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) cases during hospitalization. Age ≥ 45 years, SLE with other connective tissue diseases, high temperature, positive anti-dsDNA antibody, and Systemic Lupus International Collaborative Clinics/American College of Rheumatology Damage Index ≥ 3 were the independent risk factors for perioperative complications. Bilateral THA, low hemoglobin, and abnormal renal function were independent risk factors for perioperative transfusion. Hence, age > 45 years, SLE with another connective tissue disease, high temperature, positive anti-dsDNA antibody, and Systemic Lupus International Collaborative Clinics/American College of Rheumatology Damage Index ≥ 3 were the risk factors of complications during hospitalization were concluded as the risk factors for SLE subjects post-THA, whereas, low hemoglobin and abnormal renal function were observed to be the risk factors of transfusion for bilateral THA.
