Risk factors of catheter-related thrombosis in early-stage breast cancer patients: A single-center retrospective study
Cancer Management and Research Sep 19, 2019
Tan L, Sun Y, Zhu L, et al. - In breast cancer patients with totally implantable venous access devices (TIVADs), researchers observed the incidence and identified risk factors of catheter-related thrombosis (CRT). The study sample consisted of consecutive breast cancer patients who received the ultrasound-guided TIVAD implantation for the administration of chemotherapy from 2013 to 2016. Participants in the study were 209 breast cancer patients with a newly implanted TIVAD for chemotherapy. Data reported that the average time of port duration was 7 months. In breast cancer patients with TIVAD for chemotherapy, CRT is a common complication. Independent predictors of breast cancer for TIVAD-related CRT were tumor size, HbsAg status and low-density lipoprotein level. For asymptomatic TIVAD-related CRT, removing the port without anticoagulation treatments may be a viable option.
