Risk factors of cancer occurrence after surgery of oral intraepithelial neoplasia: A long-term retrospective study
The Laryngoscope May 12, 2018
de Régloix SB, et al. - Authors assessed the long-term clinical course of oral intraepithelial neoplasia (OIN) lesions and identified predictive factors of outcomes. They retrospectively analyzed clinical, surgical, and follow-up data of patients consecutively treated for OIN by primary surgical removal in a referral anti-cancer center from November 1998 to March 2009. Positive or close margins status was the only independent prognostic factor of progression to cancer in this long-term follow-up study on OIN treated by primary surgery. So, in cases with positive margins, conducting re-resection rather than surveillance was suggested. For the outcomes, oral intraepithelial neoplasia grading or lesion size were not significant prognosticators.
