Risk factors for treatment failure in scabies: A cohort study
British Journal of Dermatology Mar 14, 2019
Aussy A, et al. - In this multicenter study, researchers studied 210 individuals to analyze the factors predicting the treatment failure of scabies. They observed various risk factors for treatment failure: utilization of only single type of treatment ie, topical benzyl benzoate (BB) or oral ivermectin, vs the combination of both treatments; the use of a single intake (vs 2) of oral ivermectin; intake of ivermectin during a meal vs on an empty stomach; absence of decontamination of furnishings particularly sofa and cushions, mattresses or car seats; and absence of written documents describing the treatment modalities. Overall, they concluded the application of topical BB alone and a single intake (vs 2) of ivermectin as predictors of treatment failure.
