Risk factors for sleep disturbance in patients with cervical myelopathy and its clinical significance: A cross-sectional study
The Spine Journal Sep 15, 2020
Kim J, Oh JK, Kim SW, et al. - Researchers undertook this cross-sectional analysis to determine how prevalent is sleep disturbance in patients with cervical myelopathy (CM). For this purpose, validated tools were applied. Also, its mechanism was explored by identifying high-risk patients. Patients diagnosed with CM were analyzed using the Pittsburgh sleep quality index. Included patients were 203 in total, of those, men were 126 patients (62.1%). Overall 71.4% of patients (145 out of 203) were found to have sleep disturbance, despite male predominance. Findings demonstrated a correlation of sleep disturbance with a more severe type of myelopathy in patients suffering from CM. To know the mechanisms of the sleep disturbance and to better quality of life and clinical results, further investigations including polysomnography and measurement of melatonin will be useful.
