Risk factors for return to the Emergency Department for asthma: A population-based study
The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice May 02, 2018
To T, et al. - Researchers sought to quantify the rate and determine factors associated with return to the Emergency Department (ED) for asthma within 1-year of an asthma ED visit. Within a year of the initial ED discharge, nearly 1 in 8 individuals with a first asthma ED visit was noted to return to the ED. They observed a significant association of younger age, being materially deprived and having chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with increased risk of ED return in the 1-year following the initial visit. Those at risk for ED return could be targetted to improve health care costs, productivity and quality of life.
