Risk factors for recurrent wheezing after bronchiolitis in infants: Two-year follow up in China
BMC Infectious Diseases Mar 17, 2021
Chen S, Gu W, Wu M, et al. - In this study enrolling infants with bronchiolitis, the goal was to determine risk factors of recurrent wheezing after bronchiolitis. A total of 89 infants were enrolled, of those, 81 were successfully observed. For identifying respiratory viruses, nasopharyngeal aspirates were collected. Participants were observed every 3 months for a span of 2 years via telephone or at outpatient appointments. In infants examined herein, recurrent wheezing incidence post-bronchiolitis was estimated to be 22.2% during a 2-year follow-up. The only independent risk factor found was the history of eczema. Experts identified no correlation between the specific virus and disease severity among the pediatric population with post-bronchiolitis recurrent wheezing.
