Risk factors for pulmonary embolism in patients with COVID-19: A systemic review and meta-analysis
International Journal of Infectious Diseases Aug 21, 2021
Li-yan C, Wen-wen C, Zhi-wei M, et al. - In COVID-19 patients, following were identified as risk factors for PE occurrence: male gender, obesity, mechanical ventilation (MV), severe parenchymal abnormalities, ICU admission, and elevated D-dimer and white blood cell (WBC) values (at two points in time: hospital admission or closet to computer tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA)).
From PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and EMBASE, researchers identified 2,210 articles; of these, 27 studies were included.
No correlation of age and common comorbidities was reported with PE occurrence.
With the whole studies, the CTPA, unclear-ratio/low-ratio, and hospitalization subgroups had consistent risk factors.
