Risk factors for postoperative opioid use in arthroscopic meniscal surgery
Arthroscopy Jan 10, 2019
Jildeh TR, et al. - A total of 735 subjects of average age 46.7 years was studied between August 2013 and February 2017 to analyze the impact of preoperative opioid use on postoperative consumption after arthroscopic meniscal surgery and also to ascertain the preoperative patient's circumstances linked to increased opioid use after meniscal surgery. They observed a higher percentage of candidates with advanced osteoarthritis and those who were acute or chronic opioid users preoperatively continued to use opioids at all time points beyond the first postoperative month. They compared meniscal repair vs resection, primary procedure vs revision, different tear types, or concomitant methods and observed no significant variations in postoperative opioid use.
