Risk factors for postoperative ileus following elective laparoscopic right colectomy: A retrospective multicentric study
International Journal of Colorectal Disease May 11, 2018
Courtot L, et al. - Using the CLIHMET database, experts aspired to determine the pre-, intra- and postoperative risk factors linked with the development of postoperative ileus (POI) following elective laparoscopic right colectomy. A comparison was performed between patients with POI vs those without postoperative ileus. Findings demonstrated that there were more men, more use of epidural anaesthesia, more intraoperative blood transfusion requirements and greater perioperative intravenous fluid administration in the POI group. It was noted that POIs were more frequent when extracorporeal vascular section and transversal incision for extraction site were performed.
