Risk factors for post-ERCP pancreatitis in high-risk patients receiving post-procedure rectal indomethacin
Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery Jul 13, 2018
Kang X, et al. - The risk factors for post-ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) pancreatitis (PEP) in high-risk patients receiving post-ERCP indomethacin were determined. Analysing 790 patients at high risk for PEP receiving post-ERCP indomethacin from June 2012 to July 2015 at 3 tertiary hospitals in China, researchers noted that administration of post-ERCP rectal indomethacin does not prevent PEP in a substantial number of high-risk patients. Suspected sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, hilar stricture, more cannulation attempts, inadvertent pancreatic duct (PD) cannulation and PD contrast injections were identified to be the independent risk factors for PEP.
