Risk factors for perioperative respiratory adverse events after supraglottoplasty
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Jul 29, 2021
Zheng M, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective chart review to determine demographic and perioperative features that predict perioperative respiratory adverse events (PRAE) requiring intensive care unit (ICU) level intervention after supraglottoplasty. Between October 2014 and November 2019, children with laryngomalacia who underwent supraglottoplasty were analyzed. Fifty-one individuals were recruited, with a median age of 4.8 months and the majority (62 %) Hispanic. Intraoperative oxygen desaturations and preoperative ICU admission are independent risk factors for PRAE after supraglottoplasty. The findings of this study can help guide decisions about the appropriate level of postoperative care required following supraglottoplasty.
