Risk factors for periimplantitis and implant loss in orbital implants
Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery Oct 03, 2018
Allouch S, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers assessed risk factors for implant loss (primary outcome) in orbital implants and periimplantitis (secondary outcome) in patients who received orbital implants 2006-2015 with a minimum follow-up time of 12 months. They used univariate and multivariate statistics to analyze potential risk factors. They found that daily smoking, irradiation, and daily alcohol abuse had a significant impact on periimplantitis and implant loss. Findings showed that younger patients had a higher risk of developing periimplantitis. Further, orbital prostheses retained by solitary implants provide a solid option to reconstruct facial defects.
