Risk factors for multidrug-resistant organisms among deceased organ donors

Anesi JA, et al. - Given that organ utilization and recipient antibiotic management are affected by donor infection or colonization with a multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO), researchers conducted the first study assessing the risk factors for MDROs among transplant donors at four transplant centers between 2015 and 2016. Hepatitis C viremia, need for dialysis, prior hematopoietic cell transplant, and exposure to antibiotics with a narrow gram-negative spectrum were the predictors of an MDRO on donor culture.
