Risk factors for mortality after endovascular repair for blunt thoracic aortic injury
Journal of Vascular Surgery Sep 22, 2019
Mohapatra A, et al. - Researchers investigated risk factors for mortality after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for blunt thoracic aortic injury (BTAI). In addition, they developed a predictive model was created based on available preoperative clinical data. Using the Vascular Quality Initiative TEVAR dataset, 633 TEVAR cases that were performed for blunt trauma were identified. they identified a significant increase in the treatment of grade 1 injuries in recent years. The overall in-hospital mortality rate of 7.3% was reported. Age 60 year or greater, creatinine 1.2 or greater, male gender, Injury Severity Score of greater than 30, and left subclavian artery involvement were identified as the independent predictors of mortality. Based on these variables, they developed a simple point score model that robustly predicts in-hospital mortality and may help in appropriate patient selection and risk stratification.
