Risk factors for lymph nodes involvement in obese women with endometrial carcinomas
Gynecologic Oncology Jul 30, 2019
Wissing M, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers evaluated risk factors for lymph node involvement in patients with endometrial cancer and a body-mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m2. The study sample consisted of obese patients diagnosed with endometrial carcinoma between 2007 and 2015, treated in a single center in Montreal. Study participants included 230 women with BMI ≥30, 223 (97.0%) had complete staging. Investigators found that obese patients with a BMI ≥40 are at low risk for lymph nodes involvement. in obese patients, elevated CA-125 is a potential predictor for nodal involvement. The survival of obese patients with endometrial cancer was not affected by a higher BMI. In chosen instances of morbidly obese patients with unsuccessful sentinel node mapping and low CA-125, pelvic lymph node dissection may be omitted.
