Risk factors for lingual nerve injury associated with suspension laryngoscopy
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology Mar 16, 2019
Ozdamar OI, et al. - In this prospective study, 56 participants were analyzed to examine the risk factors associated with lingual nerve injury as a complication of suspension laryngoscopy using the suspension laryngoscopy procedure under general anesthesia between January 2016 and January 2018. They observed operation time and complexities during intraoperative intubation and/or suspension of the larynx as primary risk factors for lingual nerve injury after suspension laryngoscopy. They did not find a significant association between difficulties in preoperative flexible fiberoptic examination and intraoperative laryngeal compression. They found females with a greater complication rate of lingual nerve injury following suspension laryngoscopy as compared to males.
