Lukach AJ, et al. - A case-control study was performed to identify the risk factors [smoking status, BMI, sites affected by hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) type, and features, and IBD medication history] for HS in patients with IBD in order to additionally characterize these patients. Patients with IBD and HS were more likely to be overweight or obese, to be former or current smokers, and to have ileocolonic and/or perianal disease when compared to patients with IBD who did not develop HS.
