Risk factors for herpes simplex virus-1/2 viremia and clinical outcomes following unmanipulated haploidentical haematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Journal of Clinical Virology Aug 10, 2017
Tang FF, et al. – Authors in this study investigated the risk factors for herpes simplex virus (HSV)–1/2 viremia and clinical outcomes after haploidentical haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for the first time. Findings revealed an association of HSV–1/2 viremia with delayed platelet engraftment, a higher incidence of oral mucositis and severe haemorrhagic cystitis (HC). However, there appeared no association of HSV–1/2 viremia with non–relapse mortalit, leukaemia–free survival and overall survival. As per findings, they recommend performing HSV–1/2 PCR upon clinical suspicion of HSV–1/2 infection.
