Risk factors for heel pressure injury in cardiovascular intensive care unit patients
International Wound Journal Nov 10, 2021
Lee HJ, Han MY, Hwang JH, et al. - Significant risk factors for heel pressure injury in cardiovascular intensive care unit patients include: cardiac surgery, operation time, use of a mechanical ventilator, use of vasoconstrictors, use of sedative drugs, body temperature at ICU admission, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation treatment.
A total of 92 patients who were admitted to the cardiovascular surgical or medical intensive care unit of a university hospital between January and December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed in this case-control analysis.
Participants were split into the heel pressure injury group (n=31) and the non-heel pressure injury group (n=61), respectively.
Deep tissue injury occurred in 22 patients (71%) from the heel pressure injury group, and heel pressure injury occurred in 16 patients (51.6%) who had extracorporeal membrane oxygenation treatment.
