Alizadeh RF, et al. - In patients underwent laparoscopic bariatric surgery, researchers evaluated risk factors and the impact for common perioperative interventions on the development of leak. They noted that the overall rate of gastrointestinal leak in bariatric surgery was low. A higher risk for leaks was observed in association with certain preoperative factors [oxygen dependency, hypoalbumenia, sleep apnea, hypertension, and diabetes], procedural type (LRYGB), and interventions (intraoperative provocative test and surgical drain placement).
