Risk factors for falls in patients with total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Lo CWT, et al. - To review testimony regarding risk factors for falls in subjects after total hip arthroplasty (THA) and/or total knee arthroplasty (TKA), researchers 1,292,689 participants. For post-THA/TKA falls, 29 recognized risk factors were categorized into either inpatient or post-discharge risk factors. A moderate level of evidence was observed in the following key risk factors for both post-THA and/or post-TKA inpatient fall: postoperative complications or comorbidities and revision THA/TKA. Similarly, they also reported medications, psychiatric diseases, living alone, previous history of TKA, falls history and female gender as risk factors for post-discharge falls following THA and/or TKA demonstrating a moderate level of evidence.
