Risk factors for early postoperative complications and length of hospital stay in ileocecal resection and right hemicolectomy for Crohn's disease: A single-center experience
International Journal of Colorectal Disease May 11, 2018
Galata C, et al. - Using prospectively maintained surgical database, researchers gauged the risk factors for early postoperative complications and longer hospital stay after ileocecal resection and right hemicolectomy in subjects with Crohn’s disease (CD). Eligible candidates included all consecutive patients operated on between January 2010 and December 2016. The development of major postoperative complications was reported in 9.5% of the patients. Data displayed that the preoperative albumin levels > 32.5 g/L considerably reduced the risk for postoperative complications and shortened the length of hospital stay. Findings suggested that surgery could be conducted with a low rate of major complications and a very low rate of anastomotic leakage in a multidisciplinary concept with adequate preoperative management.
