Risk factors for diagnostic delay in Chinese patients with hereditary angioedema
Allergy and Asthma Proceedings Sep 24, 2019
Liu S, et al. - Via an internet-based survey interrogating 129 patients with type 1 and 2 hereditary angioedema (HAE), researchers assessed the diagnostic delay (DD) and misdiagnosis of HAE. They also identified the risk factors related to a longer DD. Complete information was provided by 96 patients. They categorized DD into 2 subperiods according to the lower quartile, ie, DD ≤ 6 years and DD > 6 years. The median DD of patients with HAE was estimated to be 11.04 years. A DD of > 6 years was predicted by younger age of onset and earlier decade of onset. The receipt of more than one previous misdiagnosis was reported by 75% of the patients. Longer DDs were seen in patients with a previous misdiagnosis vs those without a misdiagnosis.
