Clinical Gerontologist Jul 05, 2019
Chau R, et al. - Researchers analyzed adults aged ≥65 from 15 long-term-care facilities in Melbourne, Australia, to determine modifiable risk factors for depression among older adults in long-term care. They also intended to clarify existing evidence as well as to investigate new variables in this prospective observational cohort study guided by a systematic evaluation of the evidence. They assessed cognitive impairment, functional impairment, pain, sleep disturbance, social support, and person-environment fit as risk factors. Depressive symptoms and indicated Major Depressive Episode were considered as the outcomes. They found that modifiable risk factors were pain, sleep disturbance, social support, and person-environment fit.
