Risk factors for carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae bloodstream infection and predictors of mortality in Chinese paediatric patients
BMC Infectious Diseases Jun 16, 2018
Zhang Y, et al. - The clinical characteristics and mortality of K. pneumoniae bloodstream infections (BSI) were described and risk factors associated with carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae (CRKP) BSI among paediatric patients were identified. A retrospective case-control study conducted at Beijing Children’s Hospital, China from January 2011 to December 2014 suggested the association of hematologic malignancies and previous cephalosporin administration with the development of CRKP BSI. Furthermore, mechanical ventilation, septic shock and CRKP infection were found to be independent mortality predictors for K. pneumoniae BSI. In the paediatric population, researchers recommend paying more attention to CRKP BSI.
