Risk factors for asthma occurrence in children with early-onset atopic dermatitis: An 8-year follow-up study
Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Nov 30, 2017
Huang CC, et al. - This study was performed in an infantile atopic dermatitis (AD) cohort to determine the role of exposure to environmental modifiers during pregnancy and early childhood in asthma occurrence in these subjects. This investigation yielded corroboration for the critical determinants of asthma occurrence in the infantile AD, possibly permitting a more personalized approach to the prevention of asthma thereby. Notably, factors that conferred a significant risk for further development of asthma included male sex, lower birth order, maternal asthma history, maternal obesity before pregnancy, and environmental tobacco smoke exposure before 3 years of age.
