Risk factors for anastomotic recurrence after primary ileocaecal resection in Crohn’s disease
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology Sep 13, 2018
Aaltonen G, et al. - Risk factors for anastomotic recurrence after primary ileocaecal resection were identified by retrospectively analyzing data from all Crohn’s disease surgical patients in a single colorectal unit between 2006 and 2016, including all subjects who had a primary ileocaecal resection. Significant risk factors for anastomotic recurrence were urgent primary ileocaecal resection, stapled anastomosis. and a need for postoperative corticosteroid treatment following the primary ileocaecal resection. For ileocaecal resection, hand-sewn anastomosis with an opening of the bowel’s antimesenteric border appears to be a safe choice.
