Risk factors for anastomotic leakage after colorectal resection in ovarian cancer surgery: A multi-centre study
Gynecologic Oncology Apr 07, 2019
Lago V, et al. - Data from 695 cases were reviewed to analyze the pre-/intraoperative risk factors for an anastomotic leak following modified posterior pelvic exenteration (MPE) or colorectal resection in ovarian cancer and also to design a practical tool to predict the anastomotic leak risk. They noted 6.6% of the anastomotic leak rate. An independent relationship of anastomotic leakage was noticed with the following factors: age at surgery, serum albumin level, one or more additional small bowel resections, manual anastomosis and distance of the anastomosis from the anal verge. They recommended a restrictive stoma policy on the basis of the presence of risk factors due to the low incidence of AL in ovarian cancer cases. They suggested avoiding the Hand-sewn anastomosis.
