Risk factors for acute pancreatitis in patients with accidental hypothermia
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine May 18, 2018
Inoue H, et al. - Researchers aimed at determining the risk factors for pancreatic damage and the causal relationship in patients with accidental hypothermia (core body temperature below 35 °C). They retrospectively observed patients who were admitted for accidental hypothermia in the Emergency Department of a tertiary care medical center over a course of ten years (January 2008 to December 2017). As per observations, accidental hypothermia commonly leads to pancreatic damage. Risk factor for acute pancreatitis in accidental hypothermia cases included an initial core body temperature lower than 28.5 °C. Careful follow-up is recommended in such situations.
