Risk factors for acute mesenteric ischemia in critically ill burns patients—A matched case–control study
Shock Jan 19, 2019
Soussi S, et al. - Considering that burn-induced shock can lead to tissue hypoperfusion, including the gut, researchers conducted this study to identify burn patients at risk of acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI), as well as potential modifiable risk factors. In this retrospective case–control study, they identified 15 patients with AMI among 282 severely burned patients. Nonocclusive AMI mechanism was noted in all patients. Using multiple regression analysis, the investigators noted that burns patients had AMI in independent association with low cardiac output and early multiple organ dysfunction.
