Risk factors for 30-day readmission and indication for ERCP following laparoscopic cholecystectomy: A retrospective NSQIP cohort study
Surgical Endoscopy Apr 24, 2021
Zhou J, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for describing the prevalence and risk factors for readmission with an indication for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). They used multivariate logistic regression to identify risk factors for readmission with an indication for ERCP intervention. Eleven thousand ten (4.00%) of the 275,570 patients were readmitted within the 30-day postoperative period. Older patients, those with more preoperative morbidity, and those discharged to care facilities were more likely to be readmitted for any reason after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, while patients with evidence of complicated gallstone disease were more likely to be readmitted with an indication for ERCP, even after controlling for the use of intraoperative cholangiogram. Initiatives aimed at reducing readmissions with ERCP indications should target these patient subgroups.
