Risk factors associated with suicide among kidney cancer patients: A Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results analysis
Cancer Medicine Jul 17, 2019
Guo C, et al. - In this investigation, researchers described the suicide, a global public health problem, rates among kidney cancer patients and identified the potential risk factors correlated with suicide from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Overall, 171 819 patients (109,810 male patients and 62,009 female) with kidney cancer were identified from the SEER database in 1973-2015. Data reported that the suicide rate was 21.83 per 100,000 person-years and standardized mortality ratio was 1.83. According to findings, diagnosis in early years (1973-1992), male sex, unmarried status, non-black race, higher histologic grade, and cancer-directed surgery not performed were significantly linked to high risks of suicide.
Clinicians should pay more attention to patients with high-risk suicide factors to avoid suicidal death.
