Risk factors associated with early and late posttraumatic multiorgan failure: An analysis from RETRAUCI
Shock Feb 17, 2021
Barea-Mendoza JA, Chico-Fernández M, Molina-Díaz I, et al. - Researchers investigated trauma patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) to determine factors related to the development of early and late multiorgan failure (MOF) in this group of patients. They used Spanish Trauma ICU Registry (RETRAUCI) and obtained data for 9,598 trauma ICU patients. Among participants, 10% developed multiorgan failure and the predominant form was early MOF. Different risk factors related to early and late MOF forms were evident, which indicates different pathophysiological pathways. Early MOF was related to higher severity of injury and severe bleeding-related complications and late MOF was identified to be related to advanced age and nosocomial infection.
