Risk factors and the potential of nomogram for predicting hospital‐acquired pressure injuries
International Wound Journal Apr 10, 2020
Cheng H, Sun X, Ji X, et al. - In this 1:5 case‐control study, researchers identified the risk factors of hospital‐acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) and developed a mathematical model of nomogram for the risk prediction of HAPIs. Data were extracted for 370 patients with HAPIs and 1,971 individuals without HAPIs from the adverse events and the electronic medical systems. Participants in the study were randomly divided into two sets: training (n = 1,951) and validation (n = 390). Age, independent movement, sensory perception and response, moisture, perfusion, use of medical devices, compulsive position, hypoalbuminaemia, an existing pressure injury or scarring from a prior pressure injury, and surgery sufferings were considered to be significant risk factors and included in the development of a nomogram. The authors concluded that the excellent performance of the nomogram makes it a convenient and reliable risk predicting tool for HAPIs.
