Risk factors and prognosis of recurrent wheezing in Chinese young children: A prospective cohort study
Allergy, Asthma & Clinical Immunology Jun 22, 2019
Guo J, et al. - In a sample of Chinese young children, researchers determined the risk factors for different wheezing phenotypes, as well as, they focused on the prognosis of recurrent wheezing. Three groups were defined: transient wheezing, persistent wheezing and late-onset wheezing, based on the information gathered at the follow-up for wheezing episodes and remission age. With aging, an overall reduction in wheezing incidence was reported but persistent wheeze or late onset wheeze was demonstrated by transient wheezers as well as additional subsets of children, and moreover, the risk factors for wheezing showed phenotypic variability between these subgroups. In children in an eastern environment, such as in China, the most significant predictors for persistent wheezing were rhinitis ever and aeroallergens sensitization, either alone or together with previous rhinovirus infection.
