Risk factors and prognosis of patients with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma who undergo liver re-resections
European Journal of Surgical Oncology Apr 18, 2019
Li M, et al. - One hundred and three patients who underwent re-hepatectomy were retrospectively analyzed with respect to their prognosis and risk factors. Outcomes revealed that favorable long-term outcomes could be achieved with repeat hepatectomy. Immediate postoperative morbidity was observed in correlation with cirrhosis and hepatitis B (HBV) not treated with antiviral therapy. Findings suggest an independent prognostic value of serum AFP > 20 ng/mL at first resection, portal hypertension (PH), and gross vascular invasion (GVI) at recurrence. Prognosis could be predicted with TNM staging for patients without PH.
