Risk factors and nomogram for diabetes mellitus in idiopathic chronic pancreatitis
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Aug 22, 2019
Liu Y, Wang D, Guo HL, et al. - Because diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common complication of idiopathic chronic pancreatitis (ICP), which impairs patients' quality of life, researchers have identified risk factors and developed DM nomogram in ICP to assist in early diagnosis. From January 2000 to December 2013, ICP patients admitted to the center were involved. By Kaplan–Meier method, cumulative rates of DM were calculated. In total, 1,633 ICP patients have finally been enrolled. Data reported that the median follow-up duration was 9.8 years. Findings suggested that patients with one or more of the risk factors, including adults at ICP onset, biliary stringency at/before CP diagnosis, steatorrhea at/before CP diagnosis, and complex pathological changes in the main pancreatic duct have a higher DM incidence. Risk factors have been identified and nomogram has been developed to determine DM risk in patients with ICP.
