Risk factors and nomogram for diabetes mellitus in idiopathic chronic pancreatitis
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Jul 24, 2019
Liu Y, et al. - A total of 1,633 idiopathic chronic pancreatitis (ICP) patients were involved in a study by researchers assessing risk factors and developing a nomogram for diabetes mellitus (DM) in ICP to assist early diagnosis. Patients were randomly allotted 2:1 to the training and validation cohorts. Following the onset of CP, DM was observed in 26.3% (430/1,633) of them. Risk factors for DM development were being an adult at the onset of ICP, biliary stricture at/before the diagnosis of CP, steatorrhea at/before the diagnosis of CP, and complex pathologic changes in the main pancreatic duct. With well-fitted calibration curves, the nomogram attained good concordance indexes in the training and validation cohorts. A greater incidence of DM was noted in subjects with one or more risk factors, including being an adult at the onset of ICP, biliary stricture at/before the diagnosis of CP, steatorrhea at/before the diagnosis of CP, and complex pathologic changes in the main pancreatic duct.
