Risk factors and complications after body-contouring surgery and the amount of stromal vascular fraction cells found in subcutaneous tissue
International Wound Journal Oct 25, 2019
Morandi EM, Ploner C, Wolfram D, et al. - In this retrospective, single-centered appraisal study 87 massive weight loss individuals who were undergoing body-contouring surgery between 2010 and 2017 were involved in order to investigate the complications and associate it with individual stromal vascular fraction (SVF) numbers in abdominal subcutaneous fat tissue and to examine whether the weight loss method influenced complications. Collectively, 57 cases with at least one complication were noted (65.5%). The maximum lifetime weight was 109.6 kg. Half of the complications were trivial in nature without the requirement for surgical revision. The mean number of SVF discovered in the resected tissue was 714,997.63 cells/g fat tissue. No statistical variation in complication rates dependent on cell numbers was detected. Smoking and a high BMI at the time point of surgery resulted in considerably more complications. Moreover, a high resection weight exhibited a trend for impaired wound healing. Nonetheless, in this study, no variation in complication rates after body contouring procedures attributable to the method of weight loss was noticed.
