Risk factors and clinical significance of elevated mitral valve gradient following valve repair for degenerative disease
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Jan 24, 2020
Tomšič A, Hiemstra YL, Arabkhani B, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the risk factors and clinical effect of raised mitral valve (MV) gradients after valve repair for degenerative valve disease. They assessed 484 patients, who underwent valve repair for degenerative disease and a true-sized full annuloplasty ring implantation from January 2004 to December 2015. Outcomes revealed the occurrence of elevated gradients following valve repair for degenerative MV disease, even when true-sized annuloplasty is performed. In multivariable analysis, no association of postrepair MV gradient with overall survival or freedom from atrial fibrillation was observed, but it appeared as a risk factor for MV reintervention.
